TIU Discovery 2
Well we went on a bit of a break recently, Maxine wasn't quite sure whether she would like a cruise, so to make it less stressful we decided on a one week 'Iberian Treasures" cruise, on this ship here, taking in Vigo, Porto,Lisbon,Cadiz, Gibraltar,Marbella and back to Mallaga where we stayed three nights in a Hotel before flying back. Firstly, the food was great, the entertainment first class, and the atmosphere very relaxed and friendly. Without doubt though the biggest takeaway for me was the staff. The staff and crew are made up of people of all walks of life and races and religions. From every so-called class as well. They work extremely hard for long hours every day with a smile on their face and can't do enough for you. In the week we spent on this ship I never heard one raised voice from one member of staff to another. Politicians please take note, go and see for yourself how people can live together if they are allowed to and then get your act together! (And breathe...).
Anyway the trip was great, very relaxing and enjoyable, now Gibraltar, as an ex Royal Navy Airman I've been to Gibraltar quite a few times, the last time I was there there was a high street, a barracks, airfield, a Governer's residence and 'The Dunedin bar' amongst others which was owned by one of the Bay City Rollers! it was traditional to Run up the rock and get the cable car down. I'm Sad to say today it is a 90% overcrowded high street like you would find in any large town in the uk....Progress? definitely not IMHO.
On a positive note the Barbury "Rock apes are there still and as entertaining as ever!
The Rock is still of great significance and importance, but progress has meant in order to provide an income for the population it has had to lose a lot of it's character.
Still good fun though.......
